Well Kaia hasn't been sleeping quite as well the last couple nights. Our pediatrician warned us that this would happen between 4 and 6 months - she sure was right. She told us that Kaia's caloric intake would increase and that would be the time to start her on her fir
st foods. So, we started her on rice cereal. From what I've read, feeding an infant usually is a process. Typically they need to learn the skill of moving food to the back of their mouth, so there's usually a lot of rejection of food the first couple times...the main focus at the beginning is getting the baby used to eating, not really trying to get all those calories in. Well, not an issue with Kaia. We couldn't spoon that rice cereal into her mouth fast enough...granted it's really more liquid than "solid food," but still the first time she's taken food from a spoon. She really enjoyed that session, and we were really excited that she took to it so well. After 4 days of rice cereal, we can move on to another type of cereal. Just one food at a time so that if she's allergic to anything we'll be able to know which food caused the sensitivity. So, next we'll try oatmeal. Then I'd like to branch out to "real foods," like bananas, carrots and avocados. Oh, and did I mention she's 5 months old today! :)
